Use these handy pool tips and have your pool and accessories looking and functioning brand new throughout the years.

Solar Blankets:

Solar blankets are meant to maintain the temperature in your pool.  To help get the most of your solar blanket and lengthen its life follow these simple steps.       

1. Keep blanket off as much as possible during the day to prevent chlorine build up. 
2. Keep blanket off for a full day after shocking the water. 
3. To protect your blanket and keep it supple, easier to fold,  help prevent drying and cracking, use CLEAN chemical cleaner (sold in our retail store). Also good for winter covers.
   

Replacing Pool light bulb

The sealed beam lamp should last approximately two seasons provided you check the screws occasionally. However, as with any incandescent lamp, the bulb life sometimes is shorter or much longer than expected. When the sealed beam lamp finally fails, the lens will either appear cloudy or take on a black/blue hue and replacement is necessary.

To Replace The Sealed Beam Lamp:

1. Remove lamp module from niche by depressing and turning counter clockwise. Raise lamp module to deck.
2. Remove four screws from clear plastic lens ring.
3. Lift up sealed beam lamp. Loosen screws on rear of sealed beam lamp and remove forked terminal connectors.
4. Remove old "O" ring from lamp receptacle and replace with new "O" ring.
5. Fasten forked terminal connectors to screw on rear of new sealed beam lamp.
6. Place sealed beam lamp into lamp receptacle.
7. Replace lens ring onto lamp receptacle with the four screws using the same tension on all screws.

WARNING: Do not over tighten screws as they may crack the clear acrylic lens ring.

Extending the Life of your Vinyl Liner

The life span of a normal vinyl liner typically is eight to 12 years, depending on the care it receives from pool owners and pool service technicians. Some manufacturers say they have seen some liners last as long as 20 to 25 years, although this is not the norm.

Below is some practical advice for lengthening the life of your vinyl liner:

• Clean the vinyl, especially at the water line where body oils, suntan oils, carbon dioxide and contaminants from the air collect and settle. These get washed up against the liner, which tends to attract petroleum products.
• Avoid premature drying and cracking of the liner. Regularly wash the sides of the pool, especially at the water line, with either a commercially available product (sold in our retail store) or a gentle dishwashing product that is phosphate free.
• Maintain balanced water chemistry. Unbalanced pool water affects longevity of the vinyl liner.
  • Over chlorination can shorten the life span of the liner and high chlorine content can discolor the liner.
  • Under-chlorination can result in algae and bacteria growing and can shorten the life of the liner. 
  • Low pH levels cause discoloration of the vinyl liner and can result in wrinkling and a loss in its overall strength.
  • High pH levels cause wrinkling and shrinking.
• And the most important, and most basic tip – do not allow anything into the pool with sharp edges that can tear the liner. Such mishaps often occur at pool parties!
