Filters

Sand Filter

Concern: My sand filter is operating at high pressure.

Tips: Follow proper backwashing instructions, the sand bed may be clogged with mineral deposits that will require more frequent backwashing or changing of the sand. We recommend to check to see if there is a closed valve along the return line.

Concern: There is sand at the bottom of the pool.

Tips:

1.       Sand at the bottom of the pool and underneath a pool return jet, indicates there may be a loose or broken lateral located at the bottom of the filter.

2.       Your pool pump may be too large for your filter. During backwashing the pressure can cause the sand to rise and overflow into the standpipe causing sand to flow back into the pool.

3.       Granular and tablet chorine that is calcium based, may cause a calcium residue, or dust, which is often mistaken for sand.

Cartridge Filter

Concern: My cartridge filter will not clean algae from the pool.

Tips: Speak to your chemical retail store about the proper chemicals to help get rid of any live algae. Most cartridge filter problems are caused by dirty or clogged elements. Clean the elements or replace if torn or damaged.

Concern: The pool will not stay clear.

Tips:

1.       The water chemistry may not be in balance, allowing algae to multiply.

2.       Your filter operation time may not be long enough to compensate for heavy use or hot weather. Try running your filter for 24 hours to clear the water, then adjust to less running time.

3.       The cartridge filter elements may be dirty and the water is not circulating properly. Clean elements with garden hose and restart pool system.

Concern: My filter is noisy.

Tips: Excessive flow in an oversized pump may cause noise in your filter valve.

Concern: My Vari-Flow valve leaks to waste.

Tips: The valve seat gasket inside the valve may have become loose or worn and should be replaced.
