Pump Problems

Concern: My pump is not working.

Tips: Check the power, breakers and switches. If you have a timer, check to ensure it is functioning correctly.

Concern: My pump is running too hot and cutting off.

Tips: The pool pump will shut the motor off if it gets too hot, and will start again once it has cooled. Repeat occurrences may indicate that the pump motor will have to be replaced.

Concern: My pump is making a loud noise.

Tips: The internal cooling fan causes some normal sounds. Vibrations between the pump’s base, or concrete pad it is sitting on can be reduced by placing a piece of old carpet or rubber between the pump and base. Ordinary wear of the pump bearings may cause excessive noise and is indication that the pump motor should be replaced.

Concern: My pump intermittently goes on and off

Tips: Most pool pumps can be connected to either 115v or 230v. If this is a recurring problem, shut off the pump at once and have a qualified technician test and correct the problem.

Concern: There are bubbles in the pool?

Tips:

1.       Check to see to pump lid is loose or gasket is damaged and replace if necessary

2.       Check to see of water level is too low, which allows air to mix with water through the skimmer. Raising the water level will resolve

3.       Check to make sure the skimmer flap is open and not stuck in up-position. This also allows air to mix with water

4.       There may be a leak in any connection if the suction plumbing or in the underground suction plumbing. Have a service technician pressure test pool lines and check the system to properly diagnose the problem.

Concern: My pump has no pressure.

Tips:  Low flow output may be caused by a dirty or clogged filter, a blocked return line, or a partially / fully shut valve on the return line. Check to see if the pumps impeller is clogged with debris.

Concern: My pump will not prime.

Tips:

1.       Insufficient water in the strainer may indicate a suction leak.

2.       A leak at any joint, especially at the first fitting screwed into the pump housing.

3.       The pump lid may be loose or the O-ring under the lid may be worn.

4.       A clogged suction line will need to be unblocked to allow the system to operate properly.

5.       The pump may be located above the pool water level or may be too far from the pool, requiring longer periods to prime.
